Our story

Why the name is “Layman’s”

Most people do not leave their accountant’s office confused because the work was bad. They leave confused because nobody slowed down. Terms get thrown around, a number appears at the bottom of a page, and the client signs something they do not fully understand.

Layman’s Tax & Accounting Inc. was founded by Luis Pacheco, CPA to run the opposite way, and has grown into a team of licensed CPAs and Enrolled Agents who all work that way. Our mission is to take complicated tax and accounting matters and put them into layman’s terms, so you understand your own financial picture and can make confident decisions with it.

In practice that means we explain the return before we file it, we tell you what changed and why, and we flag the things you should do differently next year while there is still time to do them. It also means we will tell you when something is not worth doing, even if it would have been billable.

Today the firm handles everything from a single individual return to monthly books, quarterly planning and full IRS representation. Our team works in English and Spanish, and we are proud to be based in historic downtown Upland.

Luis is a licensed California Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Tax Resolution Specialist. He founded Layman’s to build the kind of firm he wanted to send his own family to: technically sharp, genuinely reachable, and honest about what a client does and does not need.

His work spans individual and business tax, entity structuring, monthly accounting and IRS representation, with a particular focus on helping business owners in the Inland Empire get organized and stay that way.

Marioly Pacheco is an Enrolled Agent admitted to practice before the Internal Revenue Service. She has spent the past several years helping individuals and businesses resolve IRS tax matters and navigate the complexities of the collection process.

Marioly is committed to providing knowledgeable, compassionate guidance while helping taxpayers understand their options and work toward practical solutions to their tax problems, in both English and Spanish.

Our office is inside Magnolia Executive Suites at 404 N. 2nd Ave, a short walk from the Historic Downtown Upland arch. Parking is easy, the coffee is close, and meetings are by appointment so you are never sitting in a waiting room.
