How resolution works

Four steps from the letter to the finish

Nobody can promise a number on day one. What we can promise is the order of operations, and that you will know where you stand at every stage.

01

Representation

We file Form 2848 the same week. IRS letters and calls start coming to us instead of to you, and in most cases collection pressure pauses while we work.

02

Investigation

We pull your full IRS transcripts to see what they actually have: what is assessed, what is unfiled, what notices went out, and how long they have left to collect.

03

Compliance

The IRS will not negotiate with anyone who is not current. We file the missing years, replace any returns the IRS filed for you, and get you compliant.

04

Resolution

With the real numbers in hand we negotiate the outcome you qualify for (payment plan, penalty relief, hardship status or a settlement) and put it in writing.

Why clients stay

The difference is how it feels to be a client

Plenty of firms can file a return. Fewer will pick up the phone in July, explain what they did, and tell you what to do differently next year.

Licensed CPAs & EAs

Every return that leaves this office is signed by a licensed CPA on our team and stands behind their name.

Resolution Specialists

Certified Tax Resolution Specialists on staff for the cases that go beyond filing.

Plain English

No jargon, no lecture. You will understand your own return before it gets filed.

Proactive, Not Reactive

We plan in September so April is a formality instead of a shock.

Bilingual Team

Full service in English and Spanish, in person or over the phone.

Beyond resolution

Once you are current, we keep you there

Most resolution cases start with years of unfiled returns and books nobody kept. We handle that side too, so the problem does not come back.

About the firm

A CPA firm built on one simple idea

Layman’s Tax & Accounting Inc. was founded by Luis Pacheco, CPA on the belief that tax and accounting should not require a translator. Today the firm is a team of licensed CPAs and Enrolled Agents, and that mission has not changed: take complicated tax and accounting matters and put them into layman’s terms, so you can make confident decisions about your money instead of nodding along.

We work with individuals, small businesses and growing companies across Upland and the greater Inland Empire. Some clients need one return a year. Others need monthly books, a quarterly planning meeting and someone in their corner when the IRS writes. Both are welcome here, and both get the same attention.

Our team is bilingual in English and Spanish, and the office sits in Magnolia Executive Suites in the heart of historic downtown Upland, a few steps from the arch on 2nd Avenue.

Rooted here

A local firm, in a town we actually know

Historic downtown Upland has been home base from the start. We know the businesses on 2nd Avenue, the contractors working the foothills, and the families who have been here for generations.
